What is Civic Duty?

As a participant in the governance system, every citizen enjoys rights. Along with these rights comes the obligation to discharge duties and responsibilities toward society and the nation. These duties are referred to as civic duties.

 

Article 51A of the Indian Constitution (1976)

Fundamental Responsibilities of a Citizen:

  • Preserve historical and cultural heritage.
  • Protect the environment, wildlife, and natural resources.
  • Protect the dignity and rights of women.
  • Resist superstitions and foster a scientific temper.
  • Promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood.
  • Uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of the country.
